The 4 Phases of Your Awakening Journey
Understanding what it really takes to exit the matrix and reclaim your sovereignty
If you missed my first musing, READ IT HERE.
I remember the first time I sat with Ayahuasca (Grandmother medicine)… It was December 2018 and I was seated in a teepee with around 20 other people, somewhere in the Santa Monica mountain range. I had first heard Grandmother’s call sometime back in 2016 when she started appearing in my life in the most serendipitous ways. From documentaries that would land on my T.V. to articles that found their way to my eyes to conversations that hinted at this sacred medicine, she found me. But in 2016 I was just two years into my sobriety and I struggled with the idea of engaging in plant medicine ceremonies out of fear that it would land me back to where I once was, so I ignored her calls.
2018 was different. Despite my entrepreneurial success, I was really struggling that year—emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. I found myself experiencing deep states of depression, middle-of-the-night anxiety attacks, suicidal thoughts that seemed to hit me out of nowhere, and a depth of exhaustion that challenged my athletic self. That’s when I heard Grandmother call me again, and this time, I listened.
My first experience with Grandmother was truly the first chapter of my awakening journey. It’s where I first gained the ability to see the illusions within my life. Since then, Grandmother medicine has remained in my life as a profound teacher, helping me detach from the illusions in my life and deconstruct the belief systems that were projected upon me while supporting me with the creation and embodiment of a vision that aligns with my truth. And she has helped me open my eyes to see how this process is currently taking place on a bigger scale in our world—a collective scale that has thrown all of humanity into a mass awakening, unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.
We’re all going through an awakening process right now, and it’s important to understand the phases of your awakening.
First comes disillusionment.
Then comes the deconstruction of it all.
Next comes the creation of the vision.
And finally, the embodiment of the vision.
Let’s begin with…
Phase 1: The Disillusionment Phase.
This is where you find yourself when you start seeing beyond the veils of illusion, feeling disappointed that our world is not what you once thought it to be. This is where you begin to see the many lies that you once saw as truths and realize that things are not what they seem. You will most likely access this disillusionment through your masculine energy—using your problem-solving abilities to recognize the problems at hand.
Within this phase, you may find yourself mourning what you once knew or grieving what once was. This is a key phase of your awakening process. Do not bury those feelings of grief, and instead, offer yourself the space to truly grieve.
Once you’ve grieved the world you once knew, you’ll find yourself in…
Phase 2: The Deconstruction Phase.
This is where you untangle yourself from old paradigms and belief systems and shatter the illusion that you were once living so you can create space to see things differently. You must deconstruct the world you once knew in order to see the world that truly is.
This is a phase that can stir up a lot of anxiety, anger, and frustration due to the fact that you finally realize that the world is a much different place, but beneath the anxiety, anger, and frustration is where you’ll find motivation for what’s next.
Phase 3: The Creation Phase.
This is where you map out the new reality that you see for yourself and humanity—a better reality that honors your values and your truth and the betterment of our world. This is about creating a new blueprint for yourself and a new design for humanity.
The energy of creation is cultivated through our feminine energy, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself accessing more of your divine feminine within this phase.
And finally, we have…
Phase 4: The Embodiment Phase.
This is where you start living that vision by being the vision. This is where you start paving the way for others so they can see a living, breathing example of what’s possible (vs. just hearing or reading about it.) The embodiment phase is where you integrate everything you’ve learned in your awakening journey, to truly awaken—it’s the integration of the divine masculine AND divine feminine.
You don’t need plant medicine to initiate this journey—you just need to deepen your awareness enough to reach the first phase so you can start to see beyond the veils of illusion. Ask more questions, remain curious, keep your heart and eyes open while quieting your ego’s desire to be ‘right.’
As a collective, there are some who have yet to even reach phase 1 while the rest of us find ourselves riding between all four phases. You may even find yourself swaying between multiple phases at once. Wherever you find yourself in this awakening journey, trust that this is exactly where you need to be. Everyone goes through their awakening in their own time, and often, when we try to rush this process, we end up feeling ungrounded, confused, and deeply uncertain.
Let this serve as a reminder to embrace your unique awakening journey while honoring the journeys of others. As a leader, you’re not here to awaken humanity—you’re here to awaken yourself. By doing so, you stand as an embodied example of what’s possible for everyone else.
