Have We Lost Our Humanity?
If you’re new here, TAP HERE to learn what Potent Truth is all about. If you missed my previous musings, you can catch up here: Musing 1, Musing 2.
We are living amidst the greatest battle of our lifetime, and perhaps one of the greatest battles the human race has ever endured. But this isn’t a battle of “us” vs. “them” —this is a battle of us vs. ourselves, and the quicker we realize this, the quicker we can begin to repair what we’ve lost — our humanity.
Definition of humanity
: compassionate, sympathetic, or generous behavior or disposition : the quality or state of being humane.
Definition of humane
: marked by compassion, sympathy, or consideration for humans or animals.
We’ve become selective about who we feel compassion for, and we’ve become so distracted with our own triggers that we’re losing our ability to feel empathy or sympathy for others. We’ve become so disconnected that we’re struggling to see each other because we’re struggling to see ourselves, and this is furthering our divide.
One may argue that it’s due to the narratives that we’re being fed through our TVs or social media — narratives that are encouraging us to see those who believe differently, as the enemy. And while this is true, it’s not the whole truth. Because at the end of the day, we have the power to discern what we believe, how we respond (and not react), how we treat each other, and what choices we make. We have that power, yet many people have dismissed their power in exchange for living on auto-pilot because it’s easier than having to think for one’s self. This is affecting people on all ‘sides’ of this battle.
Living on autopilot isn’t just about compliance or obedience or following ‘orders’. It happens when you close yourself off to seeing things differently — it happens when you become stubborn about your beliefs and unwilling to view different perspectives or ask more questions. And as I mentioned, we’re seeing this on all ‘sides’ of this battle.
What we’re witnessing right now is the deconstruction of what once was — what many refer to as our ‘normal’ life. But there was nothing normal about how we were living.
Since the rise of digital technology, our human race has become involved in a race to become faster and smarter, increasing our consumption and destruction of our world. Most people crave to do more, be more, and have more because they’ve become addicted to the dopamine hits of validation that they receive from the external world. But it’s this addiction that is preventing us from feeling connected to one another and separating us from our internal world and the ways of our ancestors.
We’re seeing stress levels continue to rise and mental health continuing to deteriorate, creating the most disease-ridden generation of humans to have ever graced this planet. We’re experiencing dis-ease in our minds, bodies, and spirits, and that dis-ease is being reflected in our external world.
We have to stop fighting to go back to ‘normal’ and start remembering who the fuck we are. We have to start remembering the divine intelligence of our own bodies, the guidance found within our spirit, and reclaim the sovereignty of our minds. And in order to do so, we must slow down, unplug, ground into the earth, and start shifting our focus inwards.
This isn’t a battle of us vs. them. This is a battle of us vs. ourselves.
We are losing our humanity.
We’ve lost sight of what makes us human — the thread that ties us all together. And this is causing us to become reactive with each other.
Think about it…
Why are we so quick to label those who question the main narrative as ‘conspiracy theorists?’
Why are we so quick to label those who trust the main narrative as ‘sheep?’
Why are we so quick to accuse those who question the authorities as ‘crazy’ or ‘ignorant’ or ‘stupid?’
Why are we so quick to accuse those who do not question the authorities as ‘crazy’ or ‘ignorant’ or ‘stupid?’
Why are we so quick to judge those who choose to do what they feel is best for their health, when what they feel is best differs from what we feel is best?
Why are we so quick to assume that those who believe differently are wrong?
Why are we so quick to dismiss each other when we’re all just doing our absolute best with what we know, what we have, and what’s available to us?
It’s because we’ve lost the humanity within us — our ability to practice compassion, empathy, and sympathy for ourselves and each other. Conversations have now become replaced with reactive arguments, both online and offline. We’ve become quick to judge one another just by seeing whether or not they’re wearing a mask. And most of us are operating from fight or flight, living our lives from a heightened state of stress each and every single day, making it impossible to think critically, practice discernment, and connect with our intuition.
We have to stop viewing each other as the enemy and start recognizing the enemy within us. This battle for humanity can only be won when we reignite our humanity.
No matter what ‘side’ you think you’re on, or how spiritual or evolved you think you are, I encourage you to consider how your internal battle is contributing to our divide — how your thoughts, actions, and words may be dehumanizing your fellow brothers and sisters.
Instead of tossing labels and accusations, get curious about the beliefs that you hold that are causing you to see these labels and make these accusations.
Instead of judging and dismissing those who think differently, show yourself compassion and let that compassion extend outwards.
Instead of protesting in anger, offer yourself the space to process your anger so that you may act from a grounded (and not reactive) state.
This is not the time to battle each other, because we’re all in the midst of battling ourselves. This is the time for us to reconnect to what makes us human so that we don’t lose humanity for good.
Can we love others where they are?
Can we love ourselves where we are?
Take a step back from your screens and drop inwards. Process your emotions within instead of projecting them outwards. Refuse to get caught up in the race for better, faster, stronger, or more, and instead, slow down and remember what it means to be human.
Reclaim your humanity and know that by doing so, you will contribute to the healing of our divide.
